Take the list of competitors from the previous lesson and find aspirational and inspirational profiles too. These are brands that you admire, brands doing cool things in your niche, or ones that inspire you to push the envelope. I’m talking about innovative brands, both local and global, that you look to for insights on what’s happening in your industry.

Why is this so important? Because your task is to get to know everything about these profiles. Their social media strategies, what’s working for them, what’s not, what hashtags they use, and even what times they post. Yes, we’ll dig deep. The data we gather is going to shape your own strategy, and it’ll allow you to work smarter, not harder.

Geographic Focus
Consider your target market. If you’re in Australia, focus on Aussie competitors, but look globally for inspiration too. If you’re going global, it’s crucial to look across time zones—what’s working in the US, Europe, or Asia? This analysis will ensure that your strategy fits your specific market and timezone.

Building Your Strategy

Forget about the advice that says you need to post multiple times a day or even every day of the week. That used to work back when the algorithm showcased content in chronological order. But it is definitely not the best strategy in today’s landscape. I constantly see brands burning out, exhausting their resources, posting reactively without purpose or strategy (because they think they have to) only to see their followers and engagement drop. Why? Because they missed the key ingredient—VALUE.

Your content should offer value to your followers. If you’re constantly pushing your products or services without offering anything helpful or educational, you’re going to lose your audience fast.

This doesn’t mean you have to give away free products or services. It means giving away useful tips, advice, or content/resources that helps your followers make informed decisions.

Here’s some ideas for different industries:

  • Fashion: Share creative ways to style a piece of clothing.

  • Health & Wellness: Post easy recipes, workouts, or meditations.

  • Property & Construction: Share market trends, new ‘up and coming’ locations to watch, or government grants.

  • Hospitality/FMCG: Show your followers how to make restaurant-quality dishes at home using your products.

  • Entertainment & Arts: Share techniques, industry news, and spotlight other inspiring artists.

  • For the stay-at-home mamas or network marketers: Create some free downloadables that will help other mamas or network marketers do what you do. Whether its recipe e-books or checklists to help stay organised or a free webinar to give tips in how you’re seeing success in your business.

Task Two: Now it’s time to put the pieces of the puzzle together and put the strategy into action. Using the insights we gathered from Fanpage Karma, we’re going to identify the best times to post, the best performing content for your industry, the best performing industry hashtags to use and even the best time to post. I’ll guide you through the process of setting up a posting plan and let’s commit to a minimum of 2-3 posts per week and one story every day.

Pro Tip: Keep a list of content ideas, hashtags, hooks and call-to-actions in your notes on your phone so that you always have something to post when you're stuck for inspiration.

It’s also a great idea to start an album on your phone with b-roll. This footage is performing exceptionally well and does not need to be a big production. Simply capture footage of yourself working in your craft, whether it be on the computer, in the kitchen, in the studio, or interacting with clients or customers. You can also use the “POV” technique which you probably see a lot of people posting about.

In case you didn’t know, POV stands for Point Of View and can be footage of a day in your life. You can use this footage to overlay text over the top or even narrate your voice and tell your story.

Now, let's get ready to elevate your strategy and start making meaningful connections with your audience!
